i saw a day badge that is what looks like a brass symble with a silver metal plate attached to the center with SAAR on it. any ideas and is it common?? thanks in advance

Chris, The badge you are describing is a propaganda badge for a Saar-pro-Germany 1935 election. It a 2 piece badge with a gilded swastika with a silvered imposed map of the Saar. It is one of several types of badges that promoted the reunification of the Saar region with German between 1934/35. -
