First Tinnies

After reading through this forum for a couple of months, I decided to take the plunge and start collecting tinnies. (and two pins I think) Do they look real ? Is the rule of thumb not to clean them?

All appear to be good.....most are VERY common.....and don't clean them.....if they are zink (Greymetal) a coating of Vasolene is the best treatment.

(Coat them & scrub with an old toothbrush....then wipe them off....nothing else!)

You've made a good start and no don't clean them. On zinc items I would use some olive oil on them to keep zinc pest away. I would not use a toothbrush to scrub the surface. Just blot the olive oil on the tinnie and make sure to carefully blot them dry.

Thanks - what about materials other than zinc?
