    Gautag OstHannover *Silver* Opinions please**

This came with a large group of items out of an estate, everything else is right as rain but I know nothing about these.

Sorry but I am not convinced or pleased with this medal.

Lettering and features are too light and unclear and the reverse has a pourous appearence as being cast.

And, I doubt very much that Godet would ever make this medal.

          Regards,

          John

Although he could not provide pictures I have a friend that has a silver one and his is a hollow back. He also says he has never seen a solid example of the silver. The details do look a little "soft". Especially the horse. There also does not seem to be a definite seperation of "Gautag" and "Osthannover". Here is my bronze to compare.

Sorrily, not mine but here is a gold example.

Note the strong and clear lettering and horse.

John, is yours stamped or does it have a solid back?

                  Tom,

As said, the medal isn't mine and I don't have a reverse view.

Perhaps and hopefully, a very interesting thread!

From memory, is there reference in some of the tomes about a solid back version of this most rare badge, albeit suggesting non maker marked?

What has thrown me on this one is the combination of a solid back and the dignification by Godet maker stampings. The latter of course being always associated with spectacularly high quality.

The badge shown has I think and in my opinion some signs of casting as gently suggested by John. What I find difficult to square the circle with is the quality or rather lack of quality to the most basic detail.

Here is a photo merge of the horse detail and I have used the badge by Curt in comparison. Totally different and as they say, chalk and cheese.

                    Quite odd.

                    Regards,

                    David

It should be solid as far as I know. Here is a good previous thread that shows one.

I would not want it in my collection.
