Big and small golden HJ badge

Dear big,

Sorry to say that I don't think either badge is original to the period. Both the HJ Golden Honor Badge with Oakleaves and the HJ Golden Honor Badge were issued with a control number and an RZM license number on the reverse. While neither of these badges has either nomenclature on its reverse, both of these badges look so pristine that they could have been made yesterday...or even earlier today! Hope this is helpful.

I would stay away form both items. The first one was made from genuine silver
that was gilded and the second one has to be marked in many ways!

Don't like to correct my learned colleagues but the HJ Golden Honour Badge with Oakleaves was made from 585 gold. RZM-Marked pieces are fake!

BTW, the two badges shown at the start of this thread are fake.

never get tired of seeing this badge stan its a badge i would love in my collection,and as you stated anything other than the gold content on the reverse is a very bad sign with these badges, and with the honor badges its the reverse they should have issue numbers rzm and most have the ges gesch mark too

Stan -- thanks for your input on this subject, which appears to be fraught with misinformation! Having absolutely no experience with this rare award, I checked a few scholars prior to my first note on this thread, and the results are, well, spotty! Littlejohn/Dodkins described the award w/oakleaves as "in silver gilt" (p.96); Jack Angolia says nothing about what the badge was made of but shows a photo of an example's reverse which includes the RZM logo, a maker's code and an issue/control number (p.194). Adrian Forman's 3rd edition also shows a faint photo of the reverse of this award, apparently bearing a maker's mark or control number too indistinct to clearly see, and he describes the award thus: "Early awards in hallmarked gold and enamel. Later awards of fine quality, hallmarked silver-gilt and enamel (Approx. 250 awarded)." (289) My last resource was Detlev Niemann's big book #3 and, like Forman, he describes two different versions of this award, the first being the more common (if that's the right word!) as simply "Gilded" and valued at E1,000 in 2008. The second version is described as "Production variant in Gold, rv. "585" and "333."" No value is listed for this version as it is so rarely encountered. Niemann provides two photos of the reverse of the first, or "Gilded" version, both showing the RZM logo, a manufacturer's code and an issue/control number; no illustration of either side of the "Production variant in Gold" of the Golden HJ Honor Badge with Oakleaves is shown.
