      Robert,

Perhaps I am mistaken, but the cocade on that wreath appears to be for a Heer wreath.

I was under the belief that the proper cocade for the Political Leader's wreath was as below........

hard to say for me, thats how it came out with many other Political items, Gau tabs, Reichslevel tabs, SA tabs and SS stuff.

Yes, I agree with Ron. The wreath is of the 'PL 39 issue and the cockade should have a swas in the center, as Ron pictured. Also, the wreath should be finished in a gold wash, and I don't see anything of that wash even in the cracks and crevices...? Is the base of the cockade made as part of the wreath blank or is the cockade assembly an entirely separate piece attached after the stamping of the wreath? I can't see that detail from your pix as the label on the reverse is covering it.

Looks to me like the prongs on the wreath still have some gold plating on them. The wreath is zinc and the gold plating probably just shed off like it commonly happens on lots of zinc items.

As for the army cockade being on there, who knows? It could have been a mistake (the Germans did make mistakes). Maybe the cockade was put on there to make it flashier to be traded or sold to the occupational forces. It could have been put on by the vet who captured it etc, etc, etc.
