      David,

I can't answer your question, but I used to have another tinnie from Annweiler. It shows Trifels Castle, and was also made by F. Mannheim in Kaiserslautern.

Could the small obelisk in the foreground of the castle be the Ehrenmal in question? (just a guess)

      Best,
      Greg

        Dear Greg

Many thanks for your response and for myself at least, what you have suggested makes perfect sense.

        Regards,

        David

          Hi Greg,
interesting thought. Looking into this a little, I found the view has changed quite a bit from 1933 (year on your tinnie).

In 1938 "creative restoration" was begun, including the addition of buildings, in the course of which the obelisk shown on your tinnie may have been moved (it's not there anymore today). But in 1939, maybe some of the restoration work had progressed to include the Mahnmal (which would probably refer to a political, not military memorial).

Here I found an old postcard showing Trifels Castle and a monument. But the card is dated much earlier (1910). Sothe pin should not be related with the small munument:

Here is the same colorized. So maybe a 1870-71 memorial !

And here a 1863 print - w/o memorial. Must have been a favorite picnic place for decades.
