Smithee, the Ailsby book is good and available for a reasonable price. the book doesn't really go too much into the history of the awards but rather describes them along with makers, rarity and he shows some prototypes.

This is a bit off the particular subject of Silver Gau Thüringia Badges but there is a good book -- IMO -- which is now out of print but still available via the internet on book-finder lists; it's "Hitler's Favorite Political Badges and Decorations" by Mickey Huffman (The Promethian Press, 1990). The badges discussed in this book are the Coburg, RPT'29, SA Treffen'31, GPB and the Blood Order. Huffman also mentions the Silver Coburg w/red swas but provides no further information about it other than that it was a very special award(!). As always, I hope this is helpful information.

Hello all,
The badge is rare, but the silverware is much harder to find.

We have talked about the source of this silver before, haven't we Erich. Some believe it taken from Sauckel somewhere, sometime. I believe this is veteran associated explanation? I think another logical explanation would be the Gau HQ facilities in Weimar, where state dinners and receptions were held, such as during Hitler's visits.
Here is my dinner knife from the Thuringen state service, along with items from a Gau Ehrenadler owner and some tinnies.
