Personally I don't think it is SA related. The flower on the mountain on the front looks like an Edelweiss and the 3 dots remind me of the Alpenverein badges. Likely the SA stands for Schi/Ski A (not sure what the A stands for) - Muenchen.

        hi curt

Yes it might be the alpheverein, but i dont think so thoe i got few myself and the D.A.V. would be representated on the badge, but the info i got is : rare Sa abzeichen, and would be on the time where SA was growing from a handfull, lets not forget that the nazis was def. not rich at that time so the kvality and propaganda was a bit amateurish in the first years. The Sa was plenty representated in the Hochland folk, an exampel of one, see one of my later badges below..

        cheers mate

not too early to be the SA we all know (see pic below), but as said before it may not be the Sturmabteilungen SA that this item relates to. I do not know, but I think it could just as well be some civilian ski club that issued it? I think that if it were the Sturmabteilungen that issued this award then there would have also been a swastika or something along those lines incoporated into the design. Cheers, Torsten.

                hey torstenbel
SturmAbteilung (SA) was founded in 1921 under the name Schutz- und Sportabteilungen. and on german--März 1923, Hermann Göring Führer der gesamten SA. Auslese einer besonderen Stabswache des Führers als "Stoßtrupp Hitler"-- but it was still on pretty lowbudget in uniforms etc. pic below you see the SA men in 21. Not to forget that München was the capital mother of nazism in early 20ties, the SA also had the " Edelweis" in there logo to the end of the war, and idont recal any swastica on badges until? late 20ties, so you must idmit that some of the signs is for real? it might be local or civilian badge but at that time and place ill guess that the nazis was deeply involved.

Carsten - Still not likely to be SA (Sturmabteilung). With just a few keystrokes in German Google I was able to find out it most likely refers to Skiabteilung Muenchen. They mention Class A + B skiers in 1924 which fits perfectly with the A. Kl. on the reverse of your badge. If you type in "skiabteilung muenchen 1924" there is a PDF about Skiabteilung der Sektion Bayerland which explains a lot. Still not totally definitive but much more likely than a Sturmabteilung piece.

S.A. here stands for "Sektion Alpenverein".
