Hi Chris - not sure what to tell you. All I can say about mine is that it was bought from someone that has been collecting for close to 50 years and he knows a lot of knowlegable people. According to him the one I posted is perfectly good. I've known him for a number of years and very much respect his opinion.

I am sorry but to me it also looks like a cast. Would the SS get a badge or tinnie made anywhere else but in Germany in 1933 ... not very patriotic to have a Linz (Austria) maker on an SS tinnie?? Are other examples known where early Nazi tinnies or badges have non German makers? Cheers, Torsten.

The maker on the pin assembly is Josef Mayr, Linz (Austria). This is a maker of tinnies. The company had the RZM designation M9/249.

However, as noted, it seems odd that an Austrian firm would be producing a tinnie for an 1933 SS event in Fuerth. Austria only became part of the Reich in 1938.

The example in the other thread has the Linz etc ground off. No doubt it was removed because of that inconsistancy.

No pin plate simply the pin attached to the badge in the typical soldered fashion.
