Possibly a company workers badge. (N? Motoren Werke?)

Yes, it looks like an employee's entrance or factory worker's badge, not an event tinnie -- though obviously made the same way. You should try and research what "NMW Braunschweig" might refer to -- a factory or business or plant of some sort...? Who knows, the firm may still exist and might even be interested in the return of this badge as part of their living history.

NMW = Niedersaechsische Motorenwerke. The company was located in Braunschweig and they made Flugmotoren for the Deutsche Luftwaffe.
