    Marine SA Sachsen 1936

Apparently the Laboe Naval Memorial is a memorial located in Laboe near Kiel,Schleswig - Holstein. It was inaugurated in 1927 and completed in 1936 - hence the commemorative badge by Marine SA Sachsen 1936.

The monument originally memorialised the Great War dead of the Kaiserliche Marine with the Wehrmacht Kriegsmarine dead of Second World War, being naturally included after 1945.

In 1954 the memorial was rededicated to commemorate the sailors of all nationalities who died during the two World Wars.

    Regards,

    David

Very nice David! I like this a lot. Here is a plastic tinnie from Kiel with the Laboe memorial.

Super looking badge Curt. Inlaid or printed?

Interesting to note that yours in addition to making an event reference for the completion of the memorial in 1936, also shows Skagerrak 1916.

Known to the British as the Battle of Jutland and crikey, what a sea battle that was!

        Regards,

        David

Hi David - it is printed on the plastic. I have to admit I am sometimes guilty of not researching events as well as I could. I always appreciate your "extra" info when you post yours. Yes, I am familiar with the battle of Jutland. Kind of a draw but really the end for Germany's navy in WWI.
