    here's my question and why.

What were the government specs for SA sports badges? I have two, a silver and a bronze and they show a vast difference in size. First I'll post them side by side, which is how I originally noticed the difference.

It is made of bronze, 57mm x 44mm and weighs 18.4 grams.

            question

I thought they only changed the name of the award from sportsabzeichen to wehrabzeichen. Did the tech specs change also??? I know you will have variations from manufacturer to manufacturer but I think the difference is just too great in this instance. If these were pabs I would be really scared.
            Can anyone enlighten me?
            Thanks

Don, What you have to take into account is these two badges are not only made by two different company's but are also widely separated by many years. The bronze example is of the 1st Issue March 1934 to January 1935 and the silver version is of the 3rd Issue January 1939 to the end of the war.
Here are four different badges your 1st and 3rd and my two 2nd issue all by different company's just to illustrate that even this small detail they all had their own idea on how the sword handle was designed.

I just find it amazing that they can have a 2-3 mm size variation. You know how germans are sticklers for details. I'm sure the size was dictated in writing somewhere.

                  Dera Don,

You mentioned PABs. The have these size differences as well. Compare an Aurich to an AS in height, for example.
                  Cheers, Frank

Hi Frank, I'd love to measure my PABs but I am travelling again. All I can do is look at the pictures.

I have measured them and they are all (I only have 25) are within 1-2 mm of each other.
Of course I am also open to acquiring more.
                    Thanks

                      Dear Don,

My AS is a little more than 3mm taller than my Aurich.
                      Cheers, Frank
