Grundsteinlegung des Volkswagenwerkes in Mai 1938 badge.....

    Hello,

I posted this badge in another thread with other badges (WB black, sports badge, pins...).

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=484910

After several PM's and a little internet research I found out that this pin is more scarce than I thought.

I want to sell it at the estand but I can not come up with a current value of this badge.... I've read everything from $150 to over $1000...!

I would appreciate any advice on how to price this badge (if you like PM's are fine)

    Thanks in advance

    Alex

It is a rare badge and looks to be original, i would try it at $475 and
see how it goes. All depends how badly someone wants one, values
can be all over the place with stuff like this JMO

Can you tell what the badge is made of? My understanding is that it should be made of a very light "aluminum" type material. Almost feather light.

I have an original VW button hole factory workers pin of that "aluminum" material... that is extremely light.

The badge is made out of aluminum and is definitely light, I wouldn't say feather light but light for the size of this badge. Unfortunately I do not have a precise scale to weigh it.

This has a completely different hardware form the ones that are accepted as originals. Also the details and metal are not as originals.

im not at home now so can;t post any images i colelct of the oens that are considered original, just do a forumsearch, you'll find that there are many topics of these.

these are HEAVILY faked in all forms, the one you have posted has a Hermann Aurich makermark on the reverse IMO not a good HA-mark, I tend to agree with jabnus on this one, it might not be good.

But let´s wait and look at the reference pics when jabnus can post them, I am trying to find my pics and if I find them I will post them.

Regarding the price the latest reference of a sold original one which I can remember was about 1 1/2 ago and sold by Detlev Niemann for around 75 €, I tried to buy it but was already sold.

Hello and thank you for your input.
So far, the badge got only from the WAF community, I'm a little surprised that now the hardware and material is in question.... these are the most apparent features on a badge.... Is it possible that seasoned members overlooked the features in question?

                  Dear Alex,

Im sorry to have to say, but it is not good. This is one of the most faked badges of all third reich tinnies and they have fooled MANY expert collectors as well. The quality of your badge speaks for itself, there is pitting on the front and reverse side, the needle is incorrect, the quality of the metal near the edges is wrong and the overal appearance is nothing close to an original. I have been digging into these with a friend for a while as we were on the hunt for an original. The originals are made of soft metal, and are very light in weight. They have a different pin/hardware setup and are not marked with Ges gesch (This is a big give away!). When im at home again tomorrow ill post you some pictures.

One other thing, im not wanting to insult anyone, especially not the people who replied in this or the other topic, but never judge someone to be a "'seasoned member" just because he/they have a thousand or more posts. Too many people on the WAF with no knowledge at all, have spammed the forum for years with useless remarks and now have high postcounts. You can find them in almost all forumsections and more and more people are going to start to rely on these people. This is really too bad as they are often plain wrogn and no knowledge about the items they comment on.

Always know what you have. Of course it is good to make a topic like this, but to do some research of your own would be best. Find more examples like an item you have (after all it is (though false) maker marked) and compare it to known originals. And please never go by the judgement of only one person. This includes me as well of course

                  Best regards,
                  Gaston

I want to show my example here. It is nothing like the one shown. Mine could be a dud too. No mm and a diferent attaching pin setup. Maybe others with this pin will show too.

                      Hi Robert,

Now we are getting somewhere! This is a 100% good one, ver rare!

Please compare the first one in this topic and see the differences.

                      best regards,
                      Gaston

Maybe we can get the moderator here to post the 2 so far side by side. That would help with comparison. I beleive mine is of zinc. It is feather light in weight. Robert

Hello and thank you for posting photos of your badge.

Could you please give me dimensions (length, width, height) of your badge.
If you have a chance to post the weight would be great as well.

I try to get my badge weight somewhere as well.

                            Thanks

                              Hello Gaston,

thank you very much for your feedback.
I did some research on this topic, however, the opinions on "Whats good and whats bad" are so widely spread. it's all based on "feeling" without solid prove. I also could not see any prove to your judgment. The hardware on my badge is different compared to the one posted below, but does that mean the one I have is faked or is it just a different "version".

Some say the marking "Ges. gesch." is a give away, others said period made examples exist.

You said you studied these badges for some time, it would be great if you could provide some of your findings which make you believe badge X is good and badge Y is faked.

Don't get me wrong, if my badge is proven as fake, I can handle it but I do not die without a fight

                              Alex
