The Turnerbund (Gymnastics Association) was founded in 1811 by Friedrich Ludwig Jahn (1778-1852). Their original device were 8 letter Fs, two to each arm back to back, standing for their motto (or something), so this "swastika of Fs" is a fairly neat Third Reich transformation.

They were all over, the original Fresh Air and Fitness Clubs, and indeed I have seen souvenir items for emigré chapters here. I've got a commemorative drinking glass from them right here in my own county from 1916-- surely the last time they were out in public around here! In 1934 they had 12,764 local associations with 1,609,963 members.

Deutscher Turnerbund (German Gymnastics Association), founded in 1889, when the previously existing
(since 1861) gymnastics clubs were united into one organization with German-Nationalist objectives
and anti-Semitic orientation. Associated clubs built gym halls in several towns.
It was incorporated in the "Deutscher Reichsbund für Leibesübungen"
("German National Association for Physical Exercise") in 1938 and dissolved in 1945.
Its properties were taken over by the "Allgemeine Turnvereine" ("General Gymnastics Associations"),
established in 1947, which merged to form the "Allgemeiner Sportverband" (General Sports Association).
The Turnerbund is still active to this day. As to the motto the 4F's meaning
(Frisch, Frei, Frohlich, Fromm) (Fresh, Free, Happy, Spiritual) shown here as the Runic Sun disc the Nordic symbol for health before the nazis used it.
