Sorry to say it's a fake. It has modern soft enamel. You can tell by the sunken black swastika. The biggest giveaway is the tinplate - it's only found on modern copies. I named it "coffin-shaped" some time ago, and the name stuck. If you see these narrow oval pinplates with clipped ends, stay away.

Now even the well known copies are starting to show age. Was the person you bought it from a regular at the gun show or a fly-by-night? If a regular you will only have to wait until the nexr show. If a fly-by-night, do future collectors a favor and put it under your shoe and press hard. These things are dreadful and gives our hobby a bad name.

This is exactly why I bought it . Looks old and shows age. This person left contact information for me , so I can return it and ask him to destroy. After it's up to him.
