      More than sure
The only one who made gold grade sports badge was L.CHR.LAUER - the next gold grades which was possible, was the SA Wehrabzeichen
back marked with "Eigentum der obersten SA Führung"
no way for gold grade sport badges with marking "Eigentum der SA Sportabz. Hauptstelle"

I'll not argue the point. I just described it as it looked...gold. As I am no longer collecting German items and have no interest in the research end of it, perhaps you could share this with other's who would find this helpful as to how this is a definate that gold badges were not produced by this firm.

I agree. I have three gold SA Sports Badges and all are marked L. Chr. Lauer. Furthermore, they all have very low serial numbers compared to the numbered bronze and silver grades.

He's the most knowledgable SA sport/Wehrsport badge collector that I've ever encountered.

Bizarre... the guys item is shot down with ZERO evidence.

I too would like to see some evidence that Gold SA sportbadges were only produced by 1 maker.

How can I find out more about these badges? Can anyone recommend a good book?

Yes, Gravedigga tells me he has been working on a book for some time. When it will be published, only he knows. (Soon I hope)

This is an old thread that has recently been brought up with a comment by Glenn66. Again I read in the substance of this thread the story line that gold sport badges should only have low issue serial numbers. This question has been raised before by me in this thread last year on this thread. http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...highlight=gold

Again, I pose the question to those specialists of the SA Sport Abzeichen. "I am curious is any period information has been uncovered explaining the numbering procedure for the issuing of sports badges? Is the theory still in favor that the gold versions were only issued to instructors and the like and therefore would have low issue numbers? Was there supposed to be three separate lists of issue numbers for gold, silver and bronze?
I remember some discussion in years past on this subject, but I can't remember if it was here or on GB.com (and probably lost)."

I ask this question because I have documentation that a gold sport badge was issued to a senior SS general. He certainly wasn't an instructor or a younger athlete.

Possibly because the gold badges could only have been produced after the beginning of the marking "Eigentum der obersten SA Führung". You see the gold grade sport badge had nothing to do with any greater athletic ability than someone who qualified for the bronze grade. Thus, it is ridiculous to say only a instructor would possess a gold grade badge. The silver and gold grades were awarded for additional years performing the same routine as performed to reach the bronze grade. Five years for the silver and an additional six years of repetitive qualifications were required for those initially reaching the bronze grade. As Littlejohn pointed out, with the SA/Wehrabzeichen being instituted in 1935, it would be 1946 before one could qualify for the gold. The only other method was to reaching your 35th birthday while qualifying for the silver or 40th for the gold.

And if you reached your silver and began working on the gold, by then the inscription on the reverse had been changed to "Eigentum der obersten SA Führung". So that is why GraveDigga wrote his answer. I think.

I don't know why he believes L. Chr. Lauer was the only manufacturer. I have one and it isn't Lauer.

                              SA Sports Badge in Gold

This is fascinating information (that the only Gold badges were made by L.Chr. Lauer) and I really do think that Tino is THE expert on these badges.

Happily, my badge conforms to what is being stated.
