Indeed a lovely badge but not rare by any means. These turn up regularly & are one if the easier participants badges of the Reichsberufswettkampf to find. The easiest to find are the 1934 & '35 badges, followed by this '38 design, somewhat harder to track down are the 1937 & '39 designs, but the holy grail is the 1936.......

Don is correct about these badges, but i don,t personaly believe in
the 1936 badge. Only one has surfaced as far as i know, where are
the rest. Some say because of there fragile design few survived
i remain sceptical

The badge is shown in Littlejohn's "The Hitler Youth" (my copy dated 1988 in case the pages differ if republished). Page 210 shows a girl wearing the 1st Pattern Reichssieger (cogwheel with diamond) but above it she is wearing what Littlejohn describes as "possibly a participants badge".

These have turned up a few times over the years, but have generally not been recognised for what they are. The few of us who knew what we were looking for grabbed them as they sold at a very good price for what they were & their rarity...

We went into that on the thread I posted above. It's a fragile-looking badge and I think that may be the reason that so few have survived although I know that you don't agree with that theory.
