HJ Proficiency Badge (I 'think' in silver)

This came in the other day with some other things. I would like to learn a bit more than I know now since I don’t own/collect any HJ items.

What do I know? It appears to be a die stuck badge measuring 51.40mm high by 30.52 wide. It’s marked M1/34 for the maker Karl Wurster, Markneukirchen. According to the HJ research site site I found here: http://www.hj-research.com/forum/f24...l-numbers-250/ the serial number on the reverse of the badge (#231489) falls within the known criteria of the silver grade which, apparently ran from (Lowest# 5024 through Highest# 312679).

I’ve read that these were awarded to kids between 15-17 years of age with some thinking this grade was specifically for 16 year olds. (Any thoughts there?)

Based on the photos, can anyone confirm the HJ Research claim that this is a silver grade badge? Based on the photos can anyone guess what metal it’s struck from? Finally, are these things common (my research hasn't gotten that far...)

If I'm not mistaken, Silver = 17 y/o; Bronze = 16 y/o and Iron = 15.
Yours looks to be silver

Yes, this one looks like a silver one.
Silver grade is for 17-18 years old boys.
Metal looks like silvered zink aleation made during the last years of production of this badge.

if this is zinc, I hope that is not zinc pest forming near / on that "E". IDo a search on this forum, some would say use some vaseline on it
