i have to say it is tough for me to tell about the gold wash...under the pin you can see the base metal and it is definately brass in color whereas the wash/plating looks more golden...i dont want to go out on a limb and say it is gold...but....
this does not appear to me in any way to be a repair...there is no evidence of a prior attachement device remaining at all....take a look at my 2nd photo and you can see the base metal of the piece under the hinge...you tell me if you think the wash is gold or not....
i hear you about the pin, but i was thinking perhaps a small number may have been made as presentation pieces to dignataries to emulate the gold piece ol adolf received...just a thought

The pin is not a standard factory issue pin, these were only issued with spring pins. All the other types of pins found on these are alterations or repairs, usually by the individual, sometimes by someone more skilled, perhaps a jeweller or metalshop worker.

Mike, have you looked under magnification in the recesses on the front? Are there any signs of gold here?

I strongly suspect that this was a gilded or gold washed pin from another gold award that was re fitted to this piece, but an in hand inspection would be the only way to tell for sure.

There is no evidence that I have seen yet of any gold plated or gold washed '33 badges. Only the possibility of a solid gold one. There are however known solid silver versions & silver plated ones.

Hi Mike,

I agree, almost anything is possible, very little seems to be known about this badge.

The pin certainly does look to have gold remaining. I have seen many re worked '33 badges, most were very crudely done. Some had a guide grove made into them for the pin at the factory, this cannot be disguised in a re work.

However many had no guide groove & the pin was attached with a minute amount of solder directly to the surface of the badge, these tended to break off very easily. The solder was very easy to remove by heating, this can sometimes be seen by a dicolouration in that area (this can sometimes also be caused when the pin original was fitted if heated too long).

Hello, just wondering if the 1934 Reichsparteitag badges ever were produced with a blank back. (basically, no maker mark)

While most of the 1934 Reischparteitag badges I have seen had various maker marks, I have a file photo of one that was unmarked. It had a dark finish on the back, but no mark on badge or pin mount.

Thank you very much for your reply. Yes, the one that I'm looking at buying does not have a maker mark, which made me a bit hesitant. But, seeing yours (from your file photo), at least I feel a little more confident.

Thank you Erich. It's a hollow version as you can see, but I had a question.

Was there only one type of hollow version sold at the event? Or, were there different types such as silver or bronze?
