Unknown Swallow Pin

Hello,

I have this odd looking pin that has a swallow on it and I have no idea what it is or what it was for. It looks like it would just be some type of womans pin. But it seems to have a very typical ww2 hinge and catch set up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you are right ..its a swallow , and dont you californians celebrate the coming of the swallows in san juan capistrano every year? I think they are the most beautiful of bug eating birds, and it seems when the bats died, the blue birds came from everywhere. So I will assume its a pin celebrating the swallows...and if it relates to german pin construction...they used those type hinges etc...for decades...i think its just a nice pin, but may be worth 50. or more if it were california related.

Where I grew up, the invasion of swallows every year was getting annoying back then ... Now that they don't come anymore (the pesticides played there part in this, I am sure), they are being missed. Good to know they moved to California !!
