Yes Don, you are right, Odal rune was in use by Prinz Eugen Volksdeutschen, but they were mainly recruited in the Serbian and Rumanian Banat.
I think your guy was not a Prinz Eugen, no edelweiss on the sleeve, no adler on the sleeve and apparently on the cap neither (maybe a skull there? cannot say for sure).
