    Olympic award mini

    Gentlemen,

The Olympic awards are out of my field. I came across this the other day & wondered whether it was original or not.

    Any help appreciated.

    Cheers
    Don

        Hi Don,

That's an interesting pin and I can't recall ever having seen it as a stickpin version. I assume the remaining "white" on the feathers is actually enamel ratrher than enamel-paint and in conjunction with the quality I like this one. It's a 16mm, right?

        cheers
        Peter

          Hi Peter,

I'm afraid these are the seller's pictures & I do not have the pin to inspect yet. So can't answer your questions.

It looks good from what I see but wonder whether the rings should be enamelled as well?

          Cheers
          Don

Don, I believe they actually should be enamelled, but has been chipped just like the areas on the feathers.

            cheers

              Hi Don,

I had a look at M. Messing's little guide to miniatures and he only shows the mini chain / ribboned version, not the stickpin.

I can say the minis he shows have different pattern to the feathers - especially under the wings, like the larger medal. The rings are enamelled, and the metal rays between the cross arms are squarer and more well defined. All of that might just be the difference between a 16 mm mini medal and a 12mm stickpin.

For what it's worth, I like the look of the back pinplate.

                Hi Stephen,

                Thank you for the info.

It's the reverse set up that is confusing me as it is very convincing but there are some points on the from which worry me.

Thanks for looking up the reference for them, I wondered whether there was such a thing.

                Thanks again
                Don
