I've heard there were several types, 1, 2..

Looks like a good example of a NSDAP membership badge. The M1/27 mark is the official Reichszeugmeisterei, or RZM code number for the production firm of E.L. Müller, Pforzheim. These badges can be found in both enamel and painted versions if that’s what you mean by types 1&2.
