    The "Tyrol Shooting Badge"

I hope that some of you know what I'm referring to here. I haven't checked my reference books to locate one of these and determine its "proper" name. These are round badges, with horizontal pins, both with enamel and without. One version depicts a red eagle clutching a target, with the designation "Wehrmann" and the date 1944. I recently saw a cut-out unenameled version dated 1943 as I recall, that was numbered on the reverse. My questions: what were these things, aside from the obvious marksmanship award? In other words, who awarded them, and does anyone know if they were authorized to be worn on a military uniform?

The ones with the elk skull are pretty neat looking too. Many variations to get. I can easily see the collectibility.

The primary reason thatI posted the topic in this section of the Forum is because I was hoping that someone might know whether these prize badges, admittedly non-military per se, were authorized to be worn on a uniform if the recipient happend to be in the Wehrmacht.
The basis for the question is this: I recently was examining a Heer NCO Waffenrock that was set up for the wearing of 3 badges. However, one set of badge loops was placed horizontally, and not vertically. If this had been a Kriegsmarine tunic that would not have been unusual at all. But on a Heer tunic I could not think of a badge with a horizontal pin. however, these shooting badges have horizontal pins. So, anyone know or have any thoughts...a badge with a horizontal pin on a Heer tunic???

Houston Coates over at GDCOM really is the guy to ask about these type of badges, his collection of them is outstanding, also Bill Warda is a member over there and his collection likewise is just great. Between the 2 of them you'll get all the answers you need on these.

Sorry to recommend another site, but neither are members here as far as I know.
