This medal was given by the DRL (Deutscher Reichsausschuss für Leibesübungen), later NRL(Nationalsozialistischer Reichsbund dür Leibesübungen) :

      http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutsch...es%C3%BCbungen

As this organization ended 1933 (and was followed by the N.R.L) the medal has to be issued before 1933.

          Hi,

Gerdan: "As this organization ended 1933 (and was followed by the N.R.L) the medal has to be issued before 1933"

Sorry, but hat is not correct.

The "Deutsche Reichsausschuss für Leibesübungen" (DRA) ended in 1934.
The next name was "Deutscher Reichsbund für Leibesübungen" (DRL), that ended in 1938 with the new name "Nationalsozialistischer Reichsbund für Leibesübungen" (NSRL).

          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nationa...es%C3%BCbungen

The timeframe therefore should be 1934 to 1938 (1939).

              Uwe,

              http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutsch...es%C3%BCbungen

The following is the text from the above "wikipedia" article dealing with the end of the DRA.

"Im Mai 1933 wurde er von der nationalsozialistischen Regierung aufgelöst und nach einer Übergangszeit im Folgejahr durch den Deutschen Reichsbund für Leibesübungen (DRL) ersetzt, dem alle bis dahin nicht verbotenen Sportverbände und -vereine zwangsweise eingegliedert wurden."

That means, as far as I understand, that the DRA was liqudated im May 1933.

There was a certain "transit period" till 1934 when the DRL started but DRA was not existing any more since May 1933.

If you tell me that "wikipedia" is incorrect thant my source is also incorrect. May be you are closer to that subject.

                Hi Gerdan,

contradiction is always good for the research

My answer is yes and no

First, you accept, that the DRL started in 1934 and ended in 1938, may be with a transitional phase to 1939 for badges?
See e.g. Niemann, 2nd edition, No. 6.06.13, badge for 1939 with DRL!

                Wikipedia is not always correct.

I can find different dates for the establishment of the DRL, in the Carl-Diem-Archiv with March 1934, in Wikipedia with July 1934.
I think, that the source Carl-Diem-Archiv is correct.

Back to my first Post: "The timeframe therefore should be 1934 to 1938 (1939)". Or better "must be ...".

Now let us have a look on DRA.
I accept, that it ended (official) in May 1933,
But, what is with the period betwen May 1933 and March (July) 1934?

My main sources are a book, edited from members of the Carl-Diem-Institut in 1988, "75 Jahre Deutsches Sportabzeichen", and the award books for the sports badges.
In my collection are two of these award books, both sports badges are awarded on the 25th July, 1935.

The first book, printed in March 1934, is a book for the "Deutsches Turn- und Sportabzeichen" (Deutscher Reichsausschuß für Leibesübungen DRA), award number 285389.
The second book, printed in June 1934, is a book for the "Deutsches Reichs-Sportabzeichen" (Deutscher Reichsbund für Leibesübungen DRL), award number 285396.
Both books have the pictures of the sports badge with DRA in it.
Both books have the same faksimile signature (Beauftragter des Reichssportführers).

I think, we can accept a transitional phase for the DRA (inofficial).
                I for myself accept it.

I also do accept the transitorial phase for DRA (inofficial). The sources in the Carl-Diehm-Archiv I do not know. So I also accept that you are closer to these sources and literature.

It would be interesting to know how the transitorial time (May 1933 - March 1934) was handled in reality.
But this is not the question today.

                  Gerdan
