DAF Honour pin in Gold

Thanks guys for all the replies. Does anyone know the award criteria? I know that they were issued to "Model Factories" and presumably these were in the armaments industry, but why have two awards- the Wehrwirtschaft abzeichen and DAF-Honour pin?

Stan, I hadn't seen you posting here. Wonderful DAF honour pins. But if you are referring to the Wehrwirtsschaftsfuhrer Abzeichen, that pin had nothing to do with the DAF and its Ehrenzeichen. The WWF Abz. were given to membes of the Wehrwirtsschaftrat, the Defense Economy Council that was founded by Goring.

Since writing my last post in 2009 I have come across a reference to this DAF Golden Honour Pin on p550 of "Organisationsbuch der NSDAP". This explains that the Honour Pin is awarded to the Leader of a company who runs the company adhering strictly to Party lines.

Based upon this criteria, would Sauckel have been eligible for the award of the DAF Golden Honour Pin?

The mark at the top of the Sauckel’s pin appears to be the number 8. Which would make sense with his High Position in the DAF.

Stan, Sauckel was de-facto head of the Gustloff Stiftung which included a armament factories. But the citation you provided on p550 (p545 in Org Books 6th and 7th editions) deals with the award of the designation Musterbetriebe to the leader and workers of a factory that embodied the spirit of National Socialist ideals. The only physical recognition of this designation was the Musterbetriebe Fahne which incorporated the gold DAF symbol. And the recognition to the factory was only for one year.

No, I think these gold DAF pins were for some other purpose, perhaps to recognize senior members or something.

Many thanks for calling our attention to the number "8" as it appears on the top cog of this piece. I for one was expecting any number to be upright to the piece, just as the others are seen; to me, it looked like an 'infinity' symbol,' laying on its side as it is!

I have recently upgraded my DAF Honour pin for a cased example which I shall post in due course.

In the meantime I asked Kay B from Helmut Weitze if he knew what they were awarded for and he replied that they were awarded to owners or senior management of Musterbetriebe.

This means that whilst the factory will have received the flag, senior staff received the Honour pin.

As evidence Kay supplied me with a photo of the award certificate made out to an Obmann (factory foreman).

Stan, I should have known to go to the "source" for all info on award documents. What interesting information. That ties in with some factory newsletters I have found. The Betriebsobmann was more than a factory foreman. He was the DAF leader for the entire factory and received the Gold Pin, probably along with the designated factory owner.
