The most information on these badges is in the Tinnies, Political, etc Forum which is where sports badges ended up as a category.

Do a search for "National Sports" and "SA Sports" there and you will find massive quantities of information on both types, numbers awarded, and so on.

Be aware that there has yet to be a single English language source that has gotten the requirements for either type CORRECT, especially with the SA variety, whose regulations changed over time. (Silver and gold in the first two SA issues were POSITION badges and did NOT "mean" what those grades did in the 3rd and final type, etc.)

Every single AWARDS BOOK for all varieties of badges, national, equestrian, and SA, gave the complete regulations at the time of bestowal. Some of those pages are shown in the threads in the Tinnies/Political sports badge threads.
