I dont know too much about the Luftschutz, other than it was air defense. Does anyone have more specific information? I found these in an old letter in a trunk in my attic.

Hi Skuff,
these badges are for the Luftschutz as you say, these insignia`s are worn as a decal on the steel helmet, as a breast insignia (which i am sure yours are) on the service tunic as a cap insignia and also as a sleve insignia.
Origionally formed in 1935 under police direction as a mobile civil defense force.
Its main role was air defense and in 1942 was radically overhauled and took on fire fighting, decontamination,rescue work, manning first aid posts E.T.C.
This is of course a very brief outline of thier works, which obviously became more intense as the cities of Germany became more frequenty attacked by Allied bombers.
