    Sport Association Patch

I just picked up this patch, and while my initial though was that it might be fake, due to the unusual construction, But after looking at it, there is no UV reaction, a moth nip out of it, and I like the elaborate multi-piece construction.

any thoughts? does any one have another example?

    Thanks,
    Jerry

The design itself is well known and documented. It was worn on the sport kit, I am just not sure if this one is a real one.

learned something new then. I have never seen this type before? Does anyone have any other period examples or photos of them in wear to show? Cheers, Torsten.

Hi Jerry,This is the 1936 German Olympics participants Sports Badge, and in my opinion is a real one,There was a almost identical Badge that was for Auslander organization which was worn on the vest, there were some subtle differences one being the Eagles beak was black. You will find period photos of the Olympic Badge you have if you look at Olympic photos of 1936 in particular I remember seeing the Badge in wear on the Olympic Collector cards of the time,Thanks Barney.

                    Hello
This is not an Olympic Eagle. It's a sports patch from NSRL - the gymnastic union - and it's original IMO.

The Olympic Eagle is very rare and is a white Eagle on red with outstretched wings.

I have to disagree. Period photos from the Olympics do not show a white eagle. They show a dark eagle against either a dark or, at times, a white background in the exact style as the one shown here. I have not seen any period Olympic photos that show a white eagle in use other than one that shows an Imperial looking eagle on a sport shirt and above it is a much smaller white eagle as you describe. That eagle looks very similar to the early SS eagles.

I think part of the confusion may arise, because I believe that BOTH eagles may have been worn at the Olympics, and or preliminary event photos that may have been credited as being Olympic.

does any one have the Olympic cigarette card books?

                          Hi guys~

If anyone has a copy of 'Olympiad', I believe all of the German athletes are wearing this very patch on their white sport outfits as they are entering the stadium during the opening ceremonies.

Someone should be able to verify this I would think.

                          Chrys

ps...I am in the camp that believes it is from the '36 Olympics....
