    NSDAP Badge opinion

    Hi!

I do not collect NSDAP items so I don't know what badge is this!
    It is fake or real?

I did some research and found no reference of this badge. Maybe a fantasy badge?

    Cheers,
    Fernanda

This is an original East-Hanover Gau Honor Badge. This is a well known item and is in Foreman and Angolia's books. Given to the most senior members of the Gau (district) who helped the Party during the "time of struggle", 1925-33. This is an actual award piece, as opposed to the day badge, which is hollow backed. It is worth about $1,000. A rare find.

Hello Matovsky. Thanks for the message.
So this is a real badge?
If this is not the hollow back, I would like to know, how much costs this one?
      Thanks in advance.

FIRSTLY, IT IS IMPORTANT TO REALISE THAT THE FIRST AWARDS WERE HOLLO BACKED AND THE LATER GOLD ONES COULD BE SOLID. The piece shown, although the picture is indistinct, looks as if it has a Souval hook, this would indecate that it is a copy. Souval made these in Bronze and Gold finnish.

I agree with "Warlord" - the pictures are not the best - - but that certainly does look like a Souval pin hook. In addition, the only genuine solid back version of this badge I have seen had a very different pin plate/hook assembley. It was the "gold" grade.

This Gau badge is quite a scarce award and a desireable one for NSDAP collectors. Normally encountered in hollow back bronze - - just like a tinnie in fact.

Thanks for the messages and information.

Best images from hook and catch:

Does anyone have a badge for comparison?

            Cheers,

I agree with the above collectors - - - it is a Souval made piece - - - with later "modifications" to disguise this fact - - - - maybe ok for a spacefiller if cheap enough

What is the opinion on this one ? I guess it's the day badge only.

Sorry, when I gave my opinion last year that it was an original, I did not see the reverse. Now that I see it, there is no doubt that it is a Souval repro. As to the bronze Ost Gau currently depicted on the website, the front looks ok, the reverse on this one should be hollow backed. This is essentially a tinnie or day badge probably for the ceramony for the actual awarding to the senior NSDAP members in the Gau. It is not an award piece, which were solid backed. The obverse of the solid backed Ost badge you posted last year was based on an original award piece. The horse is different and the "1933" is different from the bronze tinnie you have posted. Many collectors believe that the die for the bronze tinnie is identical to the actual award pieices. Not so In Doehles book, the picture depicted for the Ost badge in the 1943 edition matches the obverse of your Souval repro.
