Chris, Yes it is keep them togather as a set.

Your's was the organization's "Ehrennadel" which was given in bronze, silver, and gilt. Can't tell for sure from the picture which one you have, but a scarce pin no matter what the class.

how do i tell which grade this one is? this item will be joining the main piece if same grade.the pin itself not the badge is bent 90 degrees and any movement will cause a break im sure so not even going to attempt it.the bend is half way down.again thankyou for your time with this matter

This pin is not a lapel version of the larger badge, but an entirely separate award. Therefore, the original owner could have had the big one in silver and the stickpin in bronze or gold and the pieces would still belong together. I can't imagine why you'd want to break these up.
