    Raymond/All,
These are Chains of Office- worn by City Counsel members & Mayors....I've seen a couple others (not the same city- ) that were equally impressive.

Most Top City Officials would have had these Collars/Chains of office....Mayor, City Counsel, Police Chief, etc. but probably not more than a dozen per City.

Value would be quite high to the right collector!

        Hi guys,

Thanks for all the great info . Have you seen any period photos of these types of chains in wear?
        Redline09- that is the hallmark.
Gerdan- thanks for the link to the jeweller. I'll have my friend send them a letter requesting more info on it. I doubt they will even acknoweledge it, but worth a try.
Uwe- that's the coat of arms.

I always wondered about these. I had a chance to buy one from Gau Lemberg (I think that's how it was spelled) from a local vet that I worked with. It had a number of shields with the emblems of the local guilds (wheat farming, boot/shoe-making, etc.) alternating with the DAF cogwheel/swastika making up the chain and a center pendant with a profile of ol' AH on it - pretty impressive, but not my cup of tea at the time.

Wasn't sure of the value, but he was asking $1,500.00 for it at the time...kinda wish I'd bought it now!

The chains with the varrying shields, mostly enameld are the ones of the greatest interest. Some have the head of Adolph Hitler incorporated. This normally is a coin suspended from the lower shield of the City. Correctly there were a number of chains for the Dignatries of the Town. The higher ones are for the State. Like many things in collectables, these are niether fish nor foul. So a good price for a Town chain is in the region of $1000.00. That is if you can find a buyer. State ones are more, $2000.00, would not be unreasonable. The one shown, seems to be a town example, and ainly produced with cast sections. The cheapest method of construction, employed at the time. Having said that, nice talking points for a collection of Third Reich pieces.
