The monument on the back side of the medal shows the monument to honour the airmen of WWI. It is suitated on the "Wasserkuppe" a mountain in the Rhöhn mountains where gliders started their training - still today.

1923 the widow of a famous German man (Albert Ballin) gave the money to built the monument. The artist was August Gaul a famous German sculptor. On this monument are written (on a bronze plate) these words which are also written on the medal.

On a mountain near Kassel, named Dörnberg, there has be a Segelflieger Lager - a glider camp.

This postcard shows the Dörnberg with a glieder.

            Medal

            Gerdan,
Thanks for the info. Would this then be pre 1933. Was this given to glider pilots in honor of them and might you have a value for it?
            Thanks

              ..

It could be pre-1933 or TR period. Really no way to value something like this though I would not expect it to be very high in value as these sorts of things just don't command a lot of money due to collector interest being elsewhere.

that's right .. no way of telling for sure ... unless you find a specific reference for this medal/token or unless the glider plane depicts an actual model or type of plane and you can find someone who can tell when this type or model of plane was first used .... ? However, I think it is most likely from the 1920s. Cheers, Torsten.

Just in case anybody wondered, allow me to add that the medal's obverse shows the best-known landmark of the city of Kassel, the Herkules.
