    HJ Table Medal or what?....Help.

    Hello Guys,

I got this cased table medal and don't know what it is or what it was for.

Can you give me a little assistance? It would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    -wagner-

A nice seldom seen and desireable piece. It is for saving a life - - - there are two classes - - the one you have posted (non-portable) the other suspended from a ribbon and worn over the left breast.

      Hope this helps.

          Hello Wags,
Very nice item indeed particularly with the case! As Dan states this is for life saving. The piece you show is found in both silver plate and .835 silver. The ones in 835 silver are marked on the rim. Again very nice item!

              Hi Duzig(Bill),

"The piece you show is found in both silver plate and .835 silver."

Must I now throw away my cased 990 silver (marked on the rim)?

There is one "Livesaving Medal on Ribbon" (live threatening situation),
the other is the "Commemorative Medal for Live Saving" (not live threatening situation).

              Regards
              Uwe

                Hello Uwe,
You are correct regarding one is for actual lifesaving while the non portable is for lifesaving of a lesser degree. As far as silver content if yours says 990 on the rim then apparently they come in 990 silver also. Mine has .835 silver on the rim so that's why I mentioned .835. I didn't know they came in other than .835 silver so I thank you for your information.

Interesting. I just got one that is solid silver, and comes in a very substantial red case, with a big gold eagle on the top lid. I will try to post photos soon.

There is absolutely no connection of this Lifesaving award to the HJ. I have no idea what in a person's mind would make any person believe it might be HJ-related. ?? Additionally, in wondering what it was for,- I think a minor investment in a cheap German-English dictionary would be in order to simply translate things like this to see "what it says" on it.
