          vbergman,
I`ve tried to take better pics of my 1st pattern which I`ll post soon. The detail on my badge is quite crisp however its not magnetic. Does anyone know if this is a true determining factor?

                      Chris:

Thanks for taking the photos of yours! Aside from the obvious differences in finish and materials, on yours, the eagle's left wing (on our right) has a much more pronounced dip to it than mine. And on mine, the left wing is definitely a bit shorter than the right wing, about 2 mm shorter.

Notice also that the eagle's left leg (again, on our right) seems to splay out a little whereas the right leg is vertical with the claw directly under its hip joint. I'm not sure if this is a defect or flaw of some kind, or if this was intentional, perhaps attempting to show that the bird is in the act of landing or taking off.

Do you have any more info on this badge?

Somebody told me that the first badges made for the SA rally in Braunschweig are magnetics and had the characters of the text depressed (you can see an example in Detlev Niemann´s book page 312). I have one like this in my collection.
The other version, with the embossed letters, could have been done in the next years, before the introduccion of the second model.
The fakes of this first model use to have the embossed letters. So, be carefull.

I think I've read this someplace before, too. Can you post of photo or scan of your 1st model badge?

Here are Gregorio's 1st pattern badge photos. It does look like the original horizontal pin is gone and another vertical pin has been soldered on.
