Nurburgring Badges

Hi Guys,

not sure wither this is the correct section for these but hoping for some information on these badges as I can find nothing on them.

They are all Third Reich period, large badges stamped ges.gesch and pins stamped A.Donner Sclechfield.

I have found modern versions of these badges on Porches in fact James Deans Porsche Spyder had the exact one on his.

They are definitetly Third Reich period as were vet bring back with Luftwaffe items.

I'm thinking 1930's German Grand Prix team? or even Silver Arrow? but maybe that's wishful thinking.

any ideas?

Does anybody know what vehicles the badges would be a fixed too ,or have any pictures of the badges in use?

Here is a picture I found of an exact replica of James Deans Porsche 550 Spyder it sports a more modern version of the badge.

Was this badge an award for taking part in the Nurburgring Grand Prix,or even for winning it?

Nürburgring Badge

Came across this long-ago thread, researching an old Nürburgring badge I recently acquired.

Regarding the ges.gesch stamping noted above:

. . . Ges Gesch is an abbreviation for gesetzlich geschützt. Gesetzlich translates from German to English as legal, legitimate, by law. Geschützt translates from German to English as protected or sheltered. Ergo the translation means: legally protected . . .

. . . more like our 'trade-mark' or 'copywrite' . . .

Also, the basic badge design appears to be very old. I found a picture of a newspaper/circular with the exact image badge image dated Apr 1931 --- thing hasn't changed in 80-years.

The only Maker's name that I've seen on them is Adam Donner.

I also believe that the very earliest badges carry the following citation on them . . .

Entwurf:
Karl Kollbach jr
Remagen
Ausgeführt:
Adam Donner
Münzpräge
Elberfeld

Entwurf = 'design,' Ausgefuhrt = 'carried-out' . . . Designer and Maker.

This citation is plain, 7 lines of text --- no bordering, exact capitalization as above, same orientation as if seen from the front. No mis-spellings or missing umlauts. Badge will have a distinctive blocky 'G' for the lettering on the front. . . nothing like the later art-deco-style.

If the news paper image is accurate, then I believe this badge dates back before 1931.
