NSDAP Stickpin - Ges. Gesch. - Early - Or Is It?

    Hi Everyone,

Please give me your opinions as to the following badge: an early, i.e. pre-RZM, NSDAP stickpin. Or is it? I have my doubts.

On the plus side the pebbling to the red enamel field looks consistent with period examples.

On the downside, the red field dips around all of the letters; the white field has an odd look about it. I also think it has been aged - lots of what look like little pencil marks rather than scratches.

I also don't like the size of the plate attaching the pin to the badge.

And the Ges. Gesch. mark looks a little odd when viewed with a loupe.

Sizewise, it has a diameter of 19mm, so it is neither a full-size badge, or a true miniature.

Further point: the enamel has an almost plastic sheen to it and the black appears to iridesce when the pin is twisted in the light.

Ultimately, my gut feeling is that it's a bad one. Prior to buying this one, I hadn't seen an example as this one previously. However, since buying it I have encountered one on a US dealer site, that looks to be a twin - same plate to the reverse, etc.

Anyway, I would value some second thoughts on this as I'll return it if the concensus is that it's a bad one.

    Thanks for looking.

    Best,
    Toby.

        Hi.
That puffyness around the letters usually a bad sign. The A in DAP is sloppy, connected to the period.
In spite of that IMHO I think it's ok.
Unless lots more of them turn up. John

          Is the surface completly flat?

            Thanks for the replies.

@ Theo - it is very slightly convex. Consistent with a period mini of the Nun Erst Recht pin that I have.
