Here is my most recent purchase to share with you.

Sadly, the pin has been broken off, but I am just happy to have it.

As you can see from the images, the original issue number has been milled off, but unlike other examples I have seen, the number is still visible.

That gives me two bites at the cherry to try and identify the original owner, but sadly, I have not been able to score a direct hit with either of the numbers on my database. One day...

It's a great one. Even with the lost pin I think it cost plenty of money. The real stuff is extremely rare with this kind of badges I guess.

Great piece, Raymond.

Now, take it to the police department laboratory. They have a chemical that is used to restore the serial number from firearms, that have been obliterated or filed away. The compression of the molecular structure, from stamping or graving numbers, will show up and the serial number will be clear.

That is an excellent suggestion, Bob. On this one, I can actually still read the issue number (717), but I have another one that I can only make out one letter and I would be guessing at the rest. That would be well worth following up.

It's a bright green solution called Fry's Reagent, a mixture of Hydrochloric Acid, Copper (II) Chloride, Ethanol & water. We use it at work to teach the kids about forensics....... Don't get it on your skin though
