    SA sports badge?

Hello from Canada. This is my first post after lurking around and then joining. Thanks for having me! Well I wish I had stumbled onto this site with it's vast array of information and knowledgeable members a few years ago! I collect Canadian 1st and second war regiment and battallion badges and after having been given a "destroyer" badge I was hooked. Unfortunately, I can see I might have a really big junk box. Hopefully I post this right.
This first shot is a SA badge off of ebay a few years ago. Any information would be great. Thanks ...Pete

This SA Sports meeting badge is more often found with a pin attachment, there has been some concern expressed about these badges in the variation you have as being authentic. Here is a pin back that I have to compare with yours.

Thanks for the replies. The badge itself is very thin and looks like stamped aluminum and is stitched on to the cloth through holes near the top of the sword and hilt. I've never had it off the cloth. Thanks for the info. Cheers pete

Sorry to say these cloth backed badges are fakes. The badge is copied from the original pinback version and then sewn to dark cloth. I hope you didn't pay too much for it.

Hello, to have concerns regarding the felt backing although I would agree with James and Eric, judging the Badge from the obverse from my point of view it appears to be a genuine period example. Original period examples, as James correctly pointed out started life manufactured and constructed with a typical pin back assembly. The example posted has in my opinion had the pin back removed at some stage. Here is my example of the Badge for comparrison.

Well known fake, been around for quite a few years. There is currently a
nskk badge doing the rounds, Breslau something that has been give a
cloth backing large badge more like a non portable award. Given the backing
to appear like an armshield, so look out for that one.

Although the SA Gruppe Niedennhein 1937 Sports meeting Badge that I and James posted are not fakes, Both are 100% period originals. The authenticity ot the Badge that started this thread could not be determined without seeing pictures the reverse with the felt removed. The copies that exist are lacking in detail, compared to the originals which have a perfect reverse mirror image of the Obverse design.
I am presuming that the Breslau ‘something you are refering to is actually the Breslau SA meeting Badge for 1933 fakes do exist of that paricular Badge in Bronze, silver and Gold.

Martin i am not questioning yours or James badge both look fine, but the one
with the cloth backing is fake. No its not the Breslau sa meeting badge its
large like some that are fixed to award plaques. Not sure of what the exact
wording is on them, just trying to help someone not make a mistake thats all.

I agree that the cloth backed example is a fake--there are casting flaws, details different from original pinbacked examples, and since it's only a day badge, and never made an official award, there would be no reason for the number of cloth backed examples that suddenly appeared on the market several years ago.

So the general consensus is these are all fakes?
