NSDAP Long Service Award (1. Stufe)

    Dear forumites,

I would like to start a new threat about the different variations of the above-mentioned medal.

Both medals on the pictures are very heavy. The first one appears to be made of a better metal alloy (?) and a perfect bronze gilting. The second one is a zinky one, very heavy piece.

Please feel free to post yours as well and to comment my medals, especially about their material composition.

Thank you in advance for your kind attention.

    Ciao,

    Claudio

This is another one I have... it's cased and a light version... quite delicate, but very nice!

          Ciao Claudio!

I have the heavy version in zinc. The heavy version has the centers of each side applied as seperate "pillboxes".

          Cheers, Frank

              Dear Claudio,

Upon further inspection, it seems you first pictured cross is by the same maker as mine. Check my reverse and see how well preserved the finish for a zinker is, it looks like a Buntmetall piece. Yet the obverse shows zinc coming through in some places.

Could you check yours again thoroughly and tell me if it may be zinc as well, just in perfect condition? Any tiny bubbles under the finish?

              Cheers, Frank

                Dear Frank,

It's nice to hear from you! You're right about saying that our crosses could be made by the same maker. As a matter of fact, I see some bubbles coming through on the reverse. It is so well preserved that I thought that it was also "Buntmetall", too. On the obverse I (first picture) you can see a small chemical reaction, due very likely to the zink base of the medal, coming through... As usual you have very good eyes, my friend!

                Ciao,

                Claudio
