    Fuess GPB just in

    I just got a 25mm Fuess Golden Party Badge in ... I never had one before, but this one appears good, based on:

    - Swastika "floats" in white area; doesn't touch the inside edge of the circle
    - The Os are oval and not symmetrical in shape
    - The Is, especially the first and third Is in Sozialistische are spike shaped; thinner at the bottom than at the top
    - The H is very thin
    - The hyphen hangs over and almost touches the end of the S
    - The P in D.A.P. is flat and straight along the top; doesn't start to curve immediately
    - Laurel leaves and "railroad ties" seem to be formed right
    - The c in München is rounded

    The badge is 24.2 mm in diameter.

    Do you think the pin plate has been re-attached, since it's upside down?

    Is 72187 attributable to anyone?

      Hi,

      A nice and original GPB. And maybe the pin is a replacement or resoldered.
      72.187 is not on my list. Maybe on of the others have more info for you

          Nice original pin. Hard to say if it has been reattached from the photo. I've seen untouched ones with the plate on upside down.

              P.S. I have found that Party number 72 187 was Josef Niemeyer, Revisor of Gau Westfalen-Süd. Part of the documentation mentions him losing his large GPB.

                Fire Glit

                This pin well illustrates the fire glit finish in the rays behind the oak leaves. I have never seen a repro that can exhibit this original's trait with fire glit finish. You can't reproduce this finish today with the mercury that was involved in the production today.

                  Textbook piece! I would say the pin has been reattached, but that makes no difference in the desirability of the badge, as it was almost a given that the pins would break or detach.
                  As Ron mentioned, the fakers have not been able to duplicate the fire gilt finish or the details of the lettering.

                      Hi Ron,

                      I'm afraid they can. I will not say they already use it for faking badges but their is more then one manufacturer today who is specialized in fire gilding. They make exact replica's of old candles etc... for fancy hotels and important historical buildings. I found one Swiss located factory and I'm pretty sure the French are also good in this kind of work. Industrial ventilation removes the dangerous poison when they making these things with the same nice and rich colour of the past.
