Motor WA Loyalty badge for Dutch NSKK volunteers

Here's my Dutch "Motor-WA loyalty Badge" as bestowed to Dutch NSKK members!(thanks for selling it to me WAF member Luc!!).
Its also known as the "Dutch NSKK loyalty badge" among collectors, but its definitely not an official NSKK medal!

Many NSB members from the motorized W.A. served with the "NSKK Gruppe Luftwaffe" on the eastern front, including Stalingrad and as a reward for their loyalty, Anton Mussert established the badge, which was awarded to these Dutch volunteer military drivers, including to all the NSKK survivors that made it out of Stalingrad! (at least 40-50 of them are known to have been able to escape from the "kessel")

The badge came in dark bronze although higher grades (silver.gold) may have also been planned. These were awarded in 2 ceremonies, first on May 11 and again on November 9th of 1943.

The reverse is always hollow with a verticle pin (missing here) and no maker marks. I heard that many were found dug up somewhere in the vicinity of Berlin recently and most of these on the market are from that source... SO perhaps also mine since it is damaged?
Does anybody know the story on that?

Here's a period picture of the medal in wear. I found it on the web and it has been posted on WAF before.

        Another period picture

Here's another period picture. This portrait also appears in Alex Dekker's Dutch NSKK book, (stating collection F.Westera), but I've seen it on other forums as well, so I am repeating it here, as these are rare images of this award in wear, so worth sharing!

The badge was also in silver. Some were found with the bronze in Berlin. I have a bronze and silver and the dog tag.

Great addition to your collection Nick!
            Congrats with that.

This badge is assumed to be one of the rarest of the WW2 era.
Lately I noticed more turning up, which fits in with your Berlin story.

Time for me to jump on one as this one has not been reproduced yet I believe, but that can't last too long of course...

            Best regards,
            Martin

I agree rare and valuable! Thanks for the thumbs up Martin. I've already placed it in my "Nicks collection" thread for people to view as less people hang out here in this (mostly tinnies) forum section...
These badges are not that sought after (yet) because many people aren't familiar with them... but these "freiwillige" related Dutch NSKK driver awards will go up in price for sure! Especially since photographic proof of these in wear has turned up recently as I illustrated! So expect prices north of 200 euros easily, a painful experience for us Americans with our discounted dollar!! Get in while they're still affordable! I paid $175 US including postage which is quite reasonable still! Because a hord of these were dug up, some are in far worse condition and priced accordingly, but the nicer ones will demand a premium!
Get in at a soft price while you still can is my recommendation! I did not want to wait as our weakening dollar makes it even harder and these don't ever turn up in the States... so its a Euro purchase most of the time, which makes it tuff on this side of the pond with the currency situation!

I don't think any Dutchman was in Stalingrad....I think you mean Leningrad ?

Well you are right of course that the majority of Dutch (SS) volunteers were obviously deployed in the North (Leningrad sector) but NSKK members were assigned to ANY unit (Wehrmacht - Luftwaffe - DRK) ANY sector and it was indeed in the Southern Stalingrad sector (Milorowo) where these Dutch drivers saw action, even as combat troops.
This according to Alex Dekker in his well researched Dutch NSKK book, which even has a picture of these Dutch Stalingrad battle survivors posing with Anton Mussert the Dutch NSB leader. The Dutch newspaper "Volk en Vaderland" reported on March 8th of 1943 that 50 Dutch NSKK drivers had managed to get of the Stalingrad kessel and Dekker's book also shows a copy of a period newspaper clipping (again from "Volk en Vaderland"), which gives a tribute to the 300 NSKK Dutchmen that were lost in Stalingrad, when the 6th Army surrendered!
                  Its not a mistake!

Nice badge. I notice that a UK dealer has another example of this badge for sale, although it does have the pin fitting but not the catch, I still don't think it's worth the asking price of $694!

I would like to add an extra post to this tread, as there is no photo of the backside of the badge.

Here is an example of front- en backside. The pin is IMO the only right pin ever existed

THE PIN IS OF THE CORRECT TYPE, BUT THE HING IS A REPLACEMENT. The hing is a barrel form.
