Some help with miniature

Please can someone help me with this miniature Olympic games decoration. Is it rare and any ideas of value. I have only ever seen one in detlevs book(and that was a drawing!). It is non maker marked and the detail is very good even if my pitures dont do it any justice.

(i did have this thread in another catagory but i think it was the wrong one).

Hi Chris,
Very interesting mini medal. I like the overall look of it, but what is troubling to me is the eagle and swastika. There doesn't seem to be much detail on the eagles head and the swastika looks funny. However, the other details seem very sharp. I have never seen one to reference it tho. Sorry I couldn't help more, hopefully Peter J will chime in.

looks like good old german medalmakership, very good enamel and overall appearence.

I like this one, it´s has a good look, I think it´s pre 1945, maybe a private made by a jeweller.

In my book it looks to good to be a fake.

Here is a photo of a normal size second class eagle and the miniature is tiny compared to this

I was asked via a PM about this medal and he was interested in where i got it. I got from my grandad so I called him and asked him where he got it.My uncle gave it to him who inturn got it from the cheif engraver a spinks where he used to work,now apparently spinks (a uk company) used to make many decorations for germany before the war broke out and this miniature is one of them.

I have a 57er version on a stick pin of this mini (Way smaller and no eagle and swastika)! Other then the swastika it looks pretty good when you compaire it to a normal sized medal from that time. I have never seen a mini version with the eagle and swas of the olympic medal. Great to have relatives that have great items such as this.

I only wish I could have found the German helmet my great uncle traded a pack of american smokes for. It just dissapeared over the years. My advice to you is KEEP THIS MINI!!!!

There's a photo of one in "Miniaturauszeichnungen des III. Reiches" by Messing. Back in 1990 it was listed at 700-1000 German Marks - so very rare and valuable.

I concur, this is a sweet piece. The Messing book is a different ballgame and shouldn't in my opinion be taken too seriously. He spent many years buying all the various III Reich minis, at a time when the interest amongst collectors was next to nothing. By writing a book, he created a value for his collection and the collecting community was quick to adjust. But with the inflation in prices related to III Reich collectibles, I guess this is what one has to accept .

Well its just not the Olympic by its self. I think I made out on this one here when I found it even tho its all 57er. I love mini's probably more then the regular sized medals.

Niemann's catalogue values German miniatures of this award at 120 Euros

I have to concure with the thought on the miniture book. Also some very questionable pieces. The value for the min is in the region £50.00 to £75.00, the main problem is the lack of ribbon.
