I think mostly were from events, and others such as WHW tinnies were given after doing a donation, and of course, a very helpful propaganda medium.
WHW tinnies were an fun collectable for kids in those times. New versions were produced and they always had something to look after to collect. And they are still a collectable, for us, the nowadays "kids"

The first purpose of these day badges was to commemorate special events like local political rallies, festivals and sporting events to name a few . The other purpose was of course to raise money to help defer the cost of the events and also put money in the coffers of the nazi party like the country wide Day of National Solidarity.

Since Santiago & James were by far more informative, I have had a 'twinge of guilt' with my one word reply to the thread hence in light of my 'mean' reply I have dug out this Third reich era collection tin, for those who might not have seen the collection tins which originally were used for party donations to be collected, I thought it would perhaps be of interest to see an example. This is the swing handle variant (there was also a fixed handle type)This type of tin is associated with collections for the WHW charity.
