I have a set of bronze, silver and gold USA KRIEGSHILFSWERK badges...here is a picture of the gold one...they have the same pin assembly as Tom's Badge...I believe they were issued by the German American Bund...does anybody have any information on my badges?
I sent a picture of your bronze badge to my friend, here is his reply:
"The Kyffhauser as well as the Stahlhelm, Kriegersbund, and Hindenburg Club all WWI German Veterans organizations had various chapters throughout the USA due to post war immigration. Their combined numbers nationwide at any one time were approximately 1000 members, and over a period of time all were absorbed into the German American Bund. This gave a substantial boost to that organization both economically as well as to the O.D. (OD Ordnungsdienst - order division, the security force of the Bund). The Bund formed an auxilliary for WWI vets called the Frontkampferschaft complete with special armband and in some cases headgear & uniform. At times however some local units for varying reasons would meet under the auspices of their old veteran organizations whatever they might be.
In that respect Kyffhauser USA was a Bund auxilliary and I treat their memorabilia as such that dates from the 1934-1941 period. I have one of the pins that you have sent me the photo of as well as a few that are different. I have however never seen nor heard of any of these pins in either silver or gold. That is not to say it is not possible......"
Thank you very much for the information. Here is a picture of the silver one.
These came out of the woodwork together, three bronze, three gold and one silver....so I imagine they were from a person related to this organization at one time, or from that person's family.
I want to thank you and your friend for your help in identifying this badge.
