    HJ table medals

We haven't done these for a while so I thought I'd start a thread to see whether anything new has come to light since the last time they were discussed. I have a couple which I took because they were cheap but the only thing I have ever found which seems to lend them some credibility is the huge HJ set sold by Klaus Butschek earlier this year. The boy concerned, Franz Zigon, had won a few of this type of table medal (two different sizes) during his swimming career during the TR.

Does anyone else have any general thoughts on these medals. I know many collectors consider them to be fantasy products but the Franz Zigon set certainly gives food for thought.

I have wondered about these as well. I saw some advertised as repo that were somewhat bubbly on the back

Cheers for the answers guys. I guess it's always going to be difficult to know which are the real ones and which are the fakes with this relatively simple design.

I seem to remember that the Frank Zigon set was on the estand months ago before being sold on Klaus Butschek's site? Certainly a couple of us asked for detailed pictures of one of the table medals but no assistance was forthcoming from the seller as he didn't want to pull one off the card. Fair enough but it would have been a great help seeing one to be honest. I don't suppose anyone knows who owns that set now?

Hi tomas, mine are both Prag. One is Speerwurf 1941 and the other is Eishockey 1943.

The Eishockey competition has its own WIKI entry which is nice. Doesn't make the medal any more authentic but at least I know more about the competition

Can you help with the javelin medal?

I was bored and took the guts out of one of the cases to see whether anything glaringly 'non-period' was hiding in there. Well, nothing glows under UV and the glue certainly looks typical with its brown colouring and crazing. I just wish that the cases looked, I don't know... older? Does anyone have any thoughts on the case?

I have one dated 1943 from Graz and it is for fencing first place. I have always beleived that these were period and that they mainly existed in Austria. As they have appeared in groupings that have good background, I find it hard to believe they are reproductions.

Thanks Ron. Starting to regret pulling that case apart now
