HJ gold badge

With those HJ-Ehrenzeichen it is not easy to prove their are genuine or fake. Nobody knows much about them and good information is scarce. However I think this paticular piece is falling at least in the categorie of "Doubtfull authentic". Personnally I would not like to have this one in my collection and not only because of it's condition.
I hope Stephen will take a look at this tread and give his opinion.

The key with this badge is: is it going cheap? It's not a known fake (at the current state of play) so it has a chance. As others have said there are too few 'definites' with these badges for anyone to say anything really meaningful as far as this particular badge is concerned. There are undisputed originals of the HJ-Ehrenzeichen of course and these badges are what govern everyone's choices about which type/configuration to go for. If this one is going cheap I'd give it a go and then treat it as a work in progress.

The enamel of this badges is of first quality. The letters “A” or “B” have IMO nothing to do with the so called reserve piece (I think only Deumer made these reserve pieces) but have exactly the same size as the one- letter- designations applied on FM-mitgliedabzeichens (Made by the same Deschler firm!). I’m at least a little bit familiar with fire gilding and the way it aged. This week I will compare magnifier pictures in a hope to find more proof of the fact that these so called fakes are treated with real fire gilding? The safety pin looks weird for Deschler? How weird is the pin used by Deumer? How weird are the Höfstätter Golden HJ Badges marked on their reverse? Besides the fact that Detlev Niemann concerns these badges as good there is at least one German forum that excepted this specific maker also as original. It’s only a question of time and I will find more information an the opportunity to compare the badge with other excepted originals because I’m intended to buy every other maker mark. Since the time I have got this badge in my hands is my biggest concern how easy we judge a difficult badge based only on a few poor pictures. It works very well for pieces with very distinctive characteristics or die flaws but it is a disaster with some of the enamel badges. At first I was intended to give this badge back to my German dealer who had buy this directly from the family (but I agree: Never buy the story). However, since yesterday I changed my mind. The badge can stand next to my GPB’s. It has the same quality! So I will take the risk an keep this fake, doubtfull or genuine piece in my collection…
