Seller is very reliable but haven't come across one before so unsure.

    All opinions accepted happily.

Hi Tony, is that the same badge illustrated back and front? The base material looks different?

But both look OK if viewed on their own.

I have one from the same maker.

      Cheers, Ade.

Hmmmm....thanks Adrian...I see what you mean. Left picture looks like aluminium and the reverse looks like brass...very strange.
          Maybe the lighting...?!!

          Cheers everyone....Tony

Yes and odd that the pin especially appears to have no trace whatsoever of the black finish left. That may have been replaced at some point - difficult to say. How much is the seller asking? I'm not saying that this badge is necessarily a worry but I certainly wouldn't expect to pay the usual price for it.

Good badge. And indeed that differnent color is a little bit funny, but nothing that I would concern much about

if I remember right the black (iron) class made from aluminium with polished letters to give contrast. maybe there was a reason to give the surface a copper flash before painting it black? There are Iron crosses were the Iron core has recieved a copper flash before they were blackened.

You can find an example with a better preserved reverse on DN's update of this week. Besides their is more blackning present on that back, it is identical to your badge

Yes, Detlev's is textbook. Look at the black finish on the pin. That's what I would expect to see on these badges. I haven't seen an original that didn't have at least a trace of the black finish left. Detlev's badge also confirms that the underlying metal can be copper-coloured. I have the aluminium version of this badge so hadn't seen the copper colour before. That said, the badge that started the thread is an original but I just don't think that the pin has always been on it which (for me anyway) reduces the value.

                          hey tony
would not worry about your badge found this one on the net all black has gone off the front makes it looks like a silver but the back looks exactly like yours with the bronze colour coming through the back so must be a production thing with the silver top and brass looking back
                          anyway have a look
