Hi All,
I have 2 medallions with identical markings on the reverse, but they differ on the obeverse.
The reverse on both read: Neustadt A/D Weinstrasse. Pictured below the writing is a panorama of what I'm guessing is the city of Neustadt.
The obverses: One reads I. Saarpfalzisches Gauschutzenfest 16-23 August 1936. In the center are the olympic rings with (large scale) 2 oakleaves and acorn below.
The other reads II. Saarpfalzisches Gauschutzenfest 22-29 August 1937 and has the national eagle in the style identical to the 2 reich mark coin and flanking each side of the eagle is an oak leaf w/acorn. Directly below the swaz/ wreath is stamped 800 or 900 in tiny letters.
Both look to be struck in silver and show dark grey-black patina. The 1936 medal is thicker on edge than the 1937 version. I got them both glued to a board that a vet had apparently displayed a number of his war trophies on. Any idea as to what the medallions are and what they might be worth?
