    TURNERBUND - LINZ 1922

Hello Guys, opinions would be appreciated regarding the rarity of this stunning Turnerbund Tinnie that I recently came across. On a scale of one to ten, one been the most common, ten been the most rare, I guess I would rate it at a six. However I need confirmation as it is to feature in the Book I am currently working on. I will be posting some the rarer tinnies over the fourth coming weeks and would really appreciate opinions on all of them
    Regards Martin

Hello, thanks for the information. I rate this Badge as quite rare ( with the fire giding finish in such superb condition, considering it is 1922) if the ones on the dealer sites have such a superb finish to the Obverse I would be interested in buying them.

          Hi Martin,

you post this badge in the "Wehrmacht Era Militaria"

You know, that it is an Austrian badge?

I believe the Turnerbund day badges are some of the best designed pieces you can find. Here is mine with an aged bronze finish.

Hello Uwe, yes I am aware it is pre a Third reich era Badge, although if you refer to Reinhard Tieste, Ron Manion, Rudolf Kahl or Cowdery's Reference Books Turnerbund and Austrian Badges are featured and are acknowledged as Tinnies. Indeed many of the designs were copied in the Third Reich era. Tieste's epic work - Tinnies of the Reich - Tagungsabzeichens - 1930 - 1945 features numerous Austrian and Turnerbund Tinnies.

                  rarity

I have one and seen a few over the years. 'Rare' and 'uncommon' are often thrown about without much definition. And even a numeric scale would need to have some sort of reference. Again, just my thoughts.

However, if I had to categorize it I would personally define it as 'scarce', but not rare. You can define the spectrum as common, uncommon, scarce, rare and throw in 'very' for further elaboration.

                    1 - 10 represents price guide also

Hello Tony, yes in actuall fact the one to ten does not only represent the most common Tinnie at 1 and the most scarce tinnie at 10, the Book will also have a price valuation representation for each number on the scale. However as values and demand vary from country to country a number scale at present is the best solution to evalute the tinnies that will be in the Book. I keep editing regarding current market values and prices will be a guide only as it is virtually impossible to keep to fixed values in a ever changing market
                    Regards Martin

                      Hi Martin,

"Tieste's epic work - Tinnies of the Reich - Tagungsabzeichens - 1930 - 1945 features numerous Austrian and Turnerbund Tinnies."

This should not be a criterion for own action.

If other have done mistakes, must the same mistakes also be done furthermore?

                      Regards
                      Uwe

I beg your pardon for my bad English

Hello Uwe, personally I do not feel the Author's mentioned have actually made a mistake. Tieste, Manion, Kahl & Cowdery are the only Author's with published works on the subject. Perhaps a few others i.e J.R Cone.
As I am sure you are aware the Deutscher Turnerverband (German Gymnastic Association) was actually not just a physical training group and was every bit as much Political and Nationalistic. And used the identical emblem, the mobile swatika as used in the Reich. The use of the mobile swastica was featured on badges of the period until 1936 when it became banned by the czech authorities as they became alarmed by NSDAP activities what they considered to be aggressive they banned the use of the Swastika in any form. certainly from my perspective the Turnerverband has strong links to the NSDAP and even from the early 1860's (when it was first founded) it was very much anti-semetic and political.
                          Regards Martin
